Open call: Join our training program on queer rights reporting

Are you passionate about reporting on human rights, specifically in the realm of LGBTIQ+ issues? If so, we invite you to apply to be part of a comprehensive theoretical and practical training program on reporting about queer rights and lives.

Every day, we witness the powerful influence that the media has on either escalating or reducing violence and stigma against minorities. In Kosovo, there is a significant need to bring the narratives of LGBTQ+ people to the forefront.

To diversify journalism and increase LGBTIQ+ representation, Sekhmet Institute, an NGO dedicated to enhancing queer visibility and media diversity through journalistic and artistic means, has partnered with Glam Radio, a well-established radio station in Kosovo. Together, we are creating a unique partnership to launch the first radio show in Kosovo dedicated specifically to covering LGBTIQ+ issues.

To practice impactful journalism, it is essential to understand its foundations. On September 16, 2023, Sekhmet and Glam Radio will host a one-day training for journalism students and early- to mid-career journalists interested in reporting on queer issues. Led by esteemed professionals in the field, the training will cover various aspects of queer media, including editorial approaches, terminology and effective writing techniques.

Selected participants will receive detailed information about the training’s agenda and content.

Following the training, participants will have the opportunity to visit leading media organizations in Kosovo that prioritize human rights-centered reporting.

To allow participants to apply their newly acquired skills and enhance their professional qualifications, a maximum of 10 participants will be chosen to assist the editorial teams at Sekhmet and Glam Radio in producing at least 2 episodes of their bi-monthly radio show. This unique experience will run between September 2023 and May 2024, providing exposure to all aspects of radio show production and the chance to directly shape the content presented to the public.

Radio show assistants will be compensated for their work and receive a certificate acknowledging their contributions.
